As a young man and student, Bert came from the "Cellerland," an area north of Hannover, West Germany.

Influenced from childhood by his parents, music has played a large role in his life. Throughout his youth, he played various band instruments.

Bert settled in the beautiful "Coulee Region" of La Crosse, Wisconsin, in the middle sixties - and just recently found a new challenge by playing the button box.

Bert's 5-Row Button Box is hand made and custom built by Georg Ollerer Co. in Freilassing, near Salzburg, Austria, and known to be the only one if its kind in North America.

Bert plays the button box on two separate tracks using Rich's talents to mix it just right, while Paul - Bert's son - adds his modern polka-rock beat on drums keeping the music lively. As a young man and student, Bert Gasch (pronounced Gosh) came from the "Cellerland", an area north of Hannover, Germany. Influenced from childhood by his parents, music always played a large role in his life, and throughout his youth, he played various musical instruments.

Bert settled on the beautiful "Coulee Region" of La Crosse, Wisconsin during the 1960's, but always proud of and never to forget his German heritage, he recorded these ethnic tunes played on his 4 - and 5 - row button boxes. The instruments are hand-made and custom built by Georg Ollerer in Freilassing, near Salesburg, Austria.

It is also noteworthy to mention the Oktoberfest Singers in this recording. This men's chorus was started by Bert in 1990 and have entertained for many area conventions and festivals. Replete in their authentic German attire, they play and sing many well-known tradition German songs in both the German and English languages, thus creating a typical German festive beer-tent atmosphere. The chorus is twenty men strong and backed up by Bert's band; known as, Button Box 'by Gosh, with Harley Meyer on bass (horn and string), Bob Mitchell on banjo, and son Paul on percussion.
